Google Finally Wins Trademark Gmail in Germany

When Google launched Gmail in Germany in 2005, authorities there immediately impose a ban on the Gmail service. This is because other people named Daniel Giersch had registered the brand G-mail (short for Giersch mail) to the physical and electronic mail services in Germany since 2000, which means before Google announced its own email service. For the incident in Germany then Gmail users have to use googlemail.com address.
Google never did request a lawsuit to court over this, but apparently those efforts failed after the emergence of a decision of the authorities in Europe. After the decision was then no other efforts that can be done Google, until the new news. According GoogleWatchBlog originating from Germany, Google seems to have resolved the issue with Giersch. Gmail.de domain and Gmail trademark in mind has been transferred to Google on the 13th of April.
There was no comment from Google or Giersch in this regard. However, Google is expected to pay Giersch amount of money to transfer his domain to Google. This is reinforced by the information that says that Google had offered $ 250,000 Giersch money for the right brands and the Gmail name in Germany. Currently own the Google email users can use the @  . com and @  . com.
