ZTE shows of Speed 1.7 Tbps on 'Next-Generation' Fiber Optics

One of the leading vendors from China, ZTE, staged a demonstration in the field of optical networking equipment capable of carrying data at up to 1.7 Tbps on Thursday (15/3) yesterday. system based WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) transport data using each of the eight channels each channel with a capacity of 216.4 Gbps. WDM is also a system that is used in their core network that can transmit large amounts of data using different wavelengths, or through a single optical fiber. Long distance is done when the demonstration is 1750 kilometers and ZTE using a cable standard single mode optical fiber. ZTE did not give details of what the product can handle 200 Gbps per channel.

The purpose of the demo only shows that the 'upgrade of the transmission system 100 Gbps to 200 Gbps system is such a thing possible. " ZTE is not the only vendor that successfully demonstrated its ability in WDM systems. Last week, a competitor from his country, Huawei, demonstrated a prototype system that can handle 400 Gbps per channel and offers a total capacity of 20 Tbps. According to Infonetics Research , most operators are now delivering data at speeds of 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps.
