Monday Microsoft and Facebook have announced an agreement for $ 550 million patent in which the social networking giant will buy some of Microsoft's patent portfolio that has recently been acquired from Aol. Facebook will take ownership of some 650 patents owned by AOL, and it will leave licensed patents owned by Microsoft. Microsoft will retain ownership of approximately 275 Aol patents and will license the patent Aol much as 650 to be transferred to Facebook.
' 'Today's agreement with Facebook allows us to cover more than half of our costs while achieving our goal of AOL auction,'' said Brad Smith, executive vice president and general counsel of Microsoft. '' As we said earlier this month, we have made an offer to the winning bidder to acquire AOL's long-term license to a full portfolio of AOL and ownership of certain patents which complement our existing portfolio'' . Ted Ullyot, Facebook's general counsel, said, '' This is a significant step in our ongoing process to establish an intellectual property portfolio to protect the interests of Facebook in the long run.''
With the purchase of the patent license agreement from Microsoft, seems to be getting ready up front as it navigates the competition. Previously Facebook has bought Instagram with a fantastic figure that is $ 1 billion and was barely a month after Facebook has spent $ 550 million to deal with Microsoft.
